Netsky at Electric Zoo

It was announced a couple days ago that Netsky has been added to the lineup of Electric Zoo for Friday at the Main Stage. This late addition is very welcome as we at Sound Singularity believe that Drum and Bass needs a bigger following within the US. For some odd reason, it seems as though most people in the US only know of Sub Focus for Drum and Bass which is all fine and dandy but we need to help diversify that DnB portfolio for you.

Netsky recently released his newest album, 2, on Hospital Records (a good label to look into if you are new to DnB) and I urge you all to give it a listen or buy it on Beatport. I have provided some of my favorites from the album below but in my honest opinion, it legitimately can be listened to from start to finish. Make sure to check out some of his other releases after the jump if you really want to see what he's all about. If you end up enjoying this style, feel free to check out other artists such as Brookes Brothers, Camo & Krooked, Loadstar, Danny Byrd, High Contrast, and Xilent which we will post here on occasion.  And don't forget to catch Netsky on the Friday of Electric Zoo.

New Video from Mystery Skulls

Check out the video the Dallas-based indie-dance outfit Mystery Skulls just released for their new song ‘Paralyzed.’  Mystery Skulls formed in 2011 and is the newest project of Luis Dubuc, who is best known for his work in The Secret Handshake.  ‘Paralyzed’ has Dubuc’s vocals (reminiscent at times of Chomeo’s Dave 1) laid on top of a relentlessly catchy bassline.  The song peaks with some screaming synths in the outro, which I think could afford to be about 20 seconds longer.

The video is made up of clips from Spike Jonze’s short film “I’m Here.” The video will be enjoyed by anyone who has a soft spot for emotional robots.

As a side note, the full title of the short film used for this video is “I’m Here, A Love Story in an Absolut World.” It is part of Absolut’s collection of unique marketing tie-in efforts which include Swedish House Mafia’s video for "Greyhound" and Little Dragon’s video for their new single “Sunshine”.

Daft Punk New Album?

According to this article via PrefixMag, we may be seeing a brand new single from EDM's most famous duo very soon. Turns out the album rumors/whispers may be true and I think this goes without saying, but with a new album, a new tour normally follows, which would be tremendous.

I don't know about you all but I'm incredibly pumped for some new Daft Punk. The word is that this new song will be out near the end of next month and is called "Renoma Street". Keep your eyes and ears at the ready as these robots are definitely up to something and it's bound to be delicious.

Thursday Hangovers Suck, Deep House is Awesome

Hungover at the office this morning? Me too! Now that you've probably pounded some gatorade and choked down a handful of ibuprofen, here's some seriously groovy deep house / tech house to get you through the day:

Eric Prydz + Beekman Beach Club 7/28

Yes, you read that correctly. The man, the myth, the legend, Eric Prydz will be gracing NYC not only at Identity Festival but also at Beekman Beach Club at the South Street Seaport. This is by far one of the best (if not THE best) venues in the city and most definitely the best summer venue in the city for house music. If you hadn't heard from my Prydz Epic Radio post, he hardly ever comes to the States. This coupled with the venue makes this more than likely a once in a lifetime show which we HIGHLY recommend.

Prydz will be visiting Beekman Beach Club on Saturday, July 28th and tickets will go on sale on Friday at Noon, although it is not known what website they will be available on exactly (UPDATE: Eric Prydz Beekman tickets can be found HERE) at Noon. Watch the trailer below for this momentous occasion and get yourself pumped up for what could possibly be the show of the year in NYC.

Verboten / Art Department @ Beekman Beach Club

Alright. With Art Department at Beekman Beach Club / SRB looming large, I have to take a moment to give some props to Verboten New York.  As one who attends an unnecessarily large quantity of electronic music events, I feel like I have enough authority these days to bash promotion companies when they suck and praise them when they're awesome.  Lately I've been doing much more bashing than praising, but that's not the case today.  When Verboten throws a party, you can pretty much count on not only fantastic deep house and techno, but also smooth sailing logistically (entrance / bathrooms / bars).

These guys threw a show a few weeks ago featuring Maceo Plex (Crosstown Rebels), Maya Jane Coles (2020 Vision), Audiofly (Get Physical), and Maher Daniel on the decks.  The night kicked off at Beekman Beach Club down at the South Street Seaport and then moved to SRB in Brooklyn, and the party didn't stop until well into the next day.

This Friday, the format is the same, and only the cast of characters has changed (buy tickets here!). Most notably, Beekman will feature Art Department (No. 19), Ryan Crosson and Shaun Reeves (Visionquest), and No Reg Play (Wolf+Lamb) and Tone of Arc (No. 19). The afterparty at SRB is simply touted as showcasing "Art Department and friends," so we'll probably see some other No. 19 artists in the mix. Verboten will follow up this one with Oliver Huntemann Saturday, but thats another story...

Toronto-based Art Department consists of Canadians Kenny Glasgow and Johnny White. Kenny is a techno hero and Johnny is quickly rising to fame. Johnny also owns the No. 19 label, which has been on fire with a series of stellar releases this year. The duo only began collaborating around 2009 when Damian Lazarus (Crosstown Rebels owner / the tits) asked them to do a remix, which ended up leading to several releases on the prestigious label. Art Department has a unique style, but I would suggest that their signature sound usually includes deep, driving synth and somewhat haunting vocals.

This one was released on Monday and is done in collaboration with Konrad Black, another Canadian (Vancouver-based) techno veteran.  It pumps out serious deep house vibes and is bound to be dropped at afterhours clubs all summer long.  I definitely expect to hear it at SRB on friday. Hit the jump below for more of what to expect this Friday.

It's Time for the Percolator

I was planning on making this post yesterday because of how catchy this song is then completely forgot about it until this morning. It has been stuck in my head all morning long and is just too damn catchy. If you haven't heard of the Percolator then I doubt you have listened to tech house or deep house music that much as it is played pretty often. If you hear it once, it will immediately be stuck in your head.  The original is by Cajmere, of whom will be playing on August 3rd in NYC at Highline Ballroom.
Below, I have posted 3 fantastic remixes of this track from Jamie Jones, Claude VonStroke, and Dada Life. I would go out on a limb here and say that the Claude VonStroke remix is my favorite (and really hope I get to hear it at Electric Zoo from him). Give each a listen below and prepare to be saying "It's Time for the Percolator" for the next couple of days.

Eric Prydz EPIC Radio

If Eric Prydz doesn't get you excited then I'm not sure you truly appreciate house music. He has started this monthly radio show that he posts to his SoundCloud and so far, he has not disappointed with the song selection, playing lots of new tracks for the first time. This is a great way to get the week started and to make yourself forget about how another work week is under way.
In case you haven't been keeping up with his tour dates, he is making a big trip over to North America and touring with Identity Festival right about now. It is very rare to see him make the trip over due to the long flight and his fear of flying so this is an absolute must see for me. We can only hope that he will plan an extra day in NYC so we can see him at a more intimate venue than Jones Beach, say Webster Hall, Terminal 5, Cielo, or what have you (preferably not Pacha). Also make sure to check out his newest album out under one of his aliases Pryda, called Eric Prydz Presents Pryda. Enjoy the mix and as usual, track list after the jump.

Madeon Minimix for Annie Mac

By now, Madeon is a name familiar to most people in touch with the EDM community. From his chart topping remixes of Raise Your Weapon and The Island to his smash hit Pop Culture Mashup, this young gun is at the forefront of the young wave in electro. This week, he had the opportunity to put together a minimix for Annie Mac over at Radio 1 and what the young man does with 5 minutes is nothing short of extraordinary. He seamlessly samples an astounding 96 songs (!!!) to create what can only be described as Pop Culture on Steroids.  The mix covers everyone from the Beatles to Daft Punk to Kanye West.  By the looks of it, he hits almost every genre of dance music I can name.  Give the mix a listen and be sure to take advantage of the FREE DOWNLOAD while it lasts!

Ready for the Weeknd

Some music from the Weeknd/MANIK before the weekend...

I've become a huge fan of MANIK over the last year or so.  Fantastic Nu Disco / Deep House vibes from all his tracks at the least, with hints of Acid, Funk, Electronica and the like.  He's born in raised in this fine city (Queens I think? Maybe Brooklyn?) and still swears by it judging by most of his tweets.  The guy is still young but has managed to release tracks on some pretty prestigious labels, such as Droog's LA-based Culprit, Steve Bug's Poker Flat, and Hot Creations, Lee Foss' and Jamie Jones' (collectively Hot Natured) label that just cannot go wrong in my book.

This track is his take on "Trust Issues" by the Weeknd, who is another one of my favorites, albeit outside of the general electronic genre.  The Toronto-based indie R&B singer has an absolutely heavenly voice, and its clear that MANIK wasn't trying to take anything away from it with this one.

NYC: MANIK will be at Le Bain on July 6th...mark your calendars!

Here's one released on Poker Flat:

And one more...why not?  Forgot about this gem until recently:

Happy Weekend!

Summer Is Officially Here

According to the calendar that is. Granted, it is hotter than hell out and I am in dire need of a swimming pool or an ocean right now so I guess the calendar is right. Because of this, I have found myself at work (inside unfortunately) listening almost exclusively to poolside disco jams in anticipation of the weekend and any body of water.

A couple of my favorite disco producers have graciously released some mixes that will put everyone in that same mood (if the weather hasn't already forced that mood on to you too). Be on the lookout for Goldroom in particular as he will be DJ'ing at Hudson Terrace next Thursday, definitely should not be missed. Listen below and enjoy a special extra treat of Oliver remixing Breakbot, an amazing combination.

BONUS: Breakbot - One Out of Two (feat. Irfane) (Oliver Remix)

Marco Bailey and Tom Hades - "Stars and Shines"

My first post! Woooooooo!

Alright...down to business.  I think electronic music is like fine wine in that you have to appreciate its subtleties, its creator(s), and its place of origin to get the full value out of it, and this track proves that point perfectly.

Marco Bailey has been one of my favorite techno guys for a long time now and his work with Tom Hades has been exceptional.  And when you put these two on Bedrock Records, boners result.  Marco and Tom are both from Belgium, an area clearly influenced by the rise of techno in neighboring Germany/Netherlands.  Marco and Tom are both veterans of an energetic techno sound and have worked together on many collaborations since 2000.

"Stars and Shines" is definitely up to par with some of the other tracks that I love from these two, including "Shining" and "Brightness," though arguably with a trancier vibe. Regardless, this track has been sending shivers down my spine for the last couple months.  John Digweed close his set with this one in Cordoba Argentina at 8am recently, and you'll instantly be able to see why: this one was meant for sunrise.

Cheers,

Dayglow NYC 7/15 Tickets On Sale @ Noon

As some people know, this announcement has been delayed for quite some time now by the folks over at Dayglow, but finally they have said that it will be held at the Brooklyn Festival Grounds on July 15th.  The tickets go on sale at noon today here. Supposedly, the starting ticket price is $49 if you can get them quickly enough.

As you can see above, the headliners are still TBA but according to certain DJ's upcoming event pages, it seems that it will be Chuckie and Dimitri Vegas + Like Mike. Chuckie never disappoints so it should be a solid show and this will more than likely sell out quickly so make sure to be on your A game at Noon.

Para One - Promises

What is it about French electronic producers that hypnotizes me like no other?  Para One, or Jean-Baptiste de Laubier to his mother, just released his new album "Passion" and it is absolutely beautiful. These 12 tracks seamlessly flow across many genres of the EDM spectrum.  For the most part it's techno-licious experimentation with a bit of glitch mixed in for that extra kick.  Check out the album teaser below and make sure to buy the album on Beatport. Also remember to like him on Facebook!

Para One - Passion (Album Teaser)

Pleasurekraft - Skeleton Key

Ever since their earlier smash release of Tarantula, I have been an enormous fan of Pleasurekraft.  This duo consistently pumps out tech house bangers that have a very distinct, almost circus-like feel that truly is unique.  Their newest collaboration with Green Velvet blows everything they've done already out of the water.  If you have never heard of Pleasurekraft then at least check this out for the legendary Green Velvet.  The track below, Skeleton Key, will be released on July 6th so for now, check out this exclusive clip from the Annie Mac show.  I'll also be creating a full post with all of my favorite Pleasurekraft tracks once this banger is released in full.  Now if only we could get them to come around for a show in NYC, my life would then be complete (this is me begging you both to come to NYC asap).

Pleasurekraft ft. Green Velvet - Skeleton Key (Original MIx)

Bonus tech house track from Audiojack, really been digging this new jam:

MoMA PS1 Tickets On Sale

For anyone that was interested in the huge variety of artists playing at MoMA PS1 in Long Island City this year, tickets are on sale now here. This is supposed to be one of the best annual summer concert series so definitely check it out. Some of the groups that we recommend are Jamie XX, Matthew Dear, Atoms for Peace, Jacques Greene, and Rustie. Tickets are only $15 so it is quite the deal for seeing about 4 DJ's/artists per show. I will post all of the separate links by show on the right hand side once I get a little time but the link above has every show available. The full schedule is after the jump in case you forgot.

Special Features + Santos Party House

Finally, the day has come that Special Features will be gracing NYC with his presence. If you are into more of the Big Room House scene I can guarantee you have heard at least one of his remixes or possibly an original of his in the past few months as he is absolutely blowing up right now.

The man himself (Eden Anderson) is traveling from London to Santos Party House to provide us with some great house tunes along with his signature arpeggiator style for his first headline show ever.  I could not tell you where I first heard of Special Features, I think it was either his Feel So Close or Look Into Your Heart Remix that first caught my ear, but I've been on the lookout for any release I can get my hands on ever since. Martin Solveig recently dropped his remix of In My Mind at Terminal 5 and the crowd (myself especially) went crazy for it.  I still to this day believe that his Feel So Close remix may be the best remix of the bunch despite being remixed by the best of them.

As I stated before, he will be joining us all in NYC at Santos Party House on Saturday, June 23rd for Electric Beach.  Tickets will be about $20 and are available here. Because this is his first headline show (surely not the last), he has promised to let loose a ton of unreleased tracks that surely should not be missed.

I can almost guarantee he'll be hitting the festival circuit hard next year so this is a golden opportunity to see him up close and personal.  Make sure to check him out at Santos Party House, his Soundcloud, Facebook, and all the tracks below that are my personal favorites (after the jump).

Old School Wub Wubs

As I stated in a previous post, some people are saying dubstep is dead.  And although it may be getting close to that thanks to the filthy dubstep that's being put out nowadays, I would like to remind everyone of some of the older tracks out there.  I won't go as far as showing you the likes of Kode9, old Skream, or Ikonika but still, I will bring back some memories for some of you and hopefully remind everyone how great and simple dubstep was a couple years ago or so.  There is a host of tracks below that will bring you down memory lane so make sure to hit the jump in order to catch all of them.  Get the subs out and who knows, you may find a song or two you didn't know existed.

Pendulum - Watercolour (Emalkay Remix)

Barletta - Panther (Zeds Dead Remix)

White Lies - Death (Chase & Status Remix)

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs Debut Album

I'm really excited to share this one.  Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (or T-E-E-D for short) has just released his debut album, Trouble, and it is damn near perfect.  While anyone familiar with the British producer will recognize some previously released tracks such as Garden and Tapes & Money, this 15 track EP is glorious from start to finish.  He seamlessly pumps out nu-disco/indie dance and electro gold.  Check out a couple of the tracks below and support the man by buying his album on Beatport or iTunes.  You can also support him when he comes to Music Hall of Williamsburg and LPR in NYC July 31st/August 1st, ticket links available on the right hand side (we suggest LPR).

T-E-E-D - Stronger

T-E-E-D - Promises

T-E-E-D - Household Goods

Trip Hop?

I'm still a little uncertain as to what to call the genre that certain people like Flosstradamus and Kito produce but man is it catchy.  If I had to say, I guess I would call it Electronic/Hip Hop but who knows honestly.  Anyway, I found this great Kito mix the other day that is filled with songs like this that I didn't know existed and I was very happy to give it a listen.  2 hours of straight Kito goodness and I even took the liberty to post a couple of my favorite tracks from it below.

Kito & Reija Lee - Sweet Talk

Professor Kliq

Never really knew about Professor Kliq until I had discovered his remix of Feel Good Inc (see below after the jump) a little while ago.  Now, another friend has passed along a Professor Kliq song that is just as good and I have started a pretty solid dive into his collection of tracks.  I am honestly pretty impressed by his diverse sound where you can catch hints of disco, electro, electro house, and most any other genre out there.  It's definitely his own sound and style of electronic music which is really quite catchy.  I've posted chill electronic, disco-y electronic, and a faster paced electronic jam below after the jump, all of which are very quality.  Definitely check him out on Soundcloud here as most of his tracks are free.

Breakfast!

Last night at Hudson Terrace, we saw Gigamesh in all his disco glory and it was quite a show in terms of song selection.  As a bit of a change of pace last night, Alex English had the honor of opening for him and I'm pretty sure he hit every electronic genre other than dubstep.

One trio of songs particularly caught our attention starting out with this amazing song Breakfast, which we did not know existed (thank you for the ID Mr. English).  Obviously, this song is a bit of a joke with the lyrics but it's also pretty damn awesome.  Right after, he mixed in Club Sandwiches which blew us away as this was the first time I had heard anyone play it live.  And to top it all off, he threw in Big Bad Wolf (Gesaffelstein Remix) for good measure.

If anyone was there for this, then you definitely saw us there as we were probably the only ones there that were going insane during these songs.  Enjoy all 3 below and make sure to catch Oliver at Hudson Terrace next Thursday for more amazing disco.

Le Le - Breakfast (Mercury Remix)

Detroit Grand Pubahs - Club Sandwiches (Marc Romboys Systematic Soul Mix)

Duck Sauce - Big Bad Wolf (Gesaffelstein Remix)

Who Says Dubstep is Stale?

I've been hearing from a lot of people how dubstep has gone downhill thanks to the likes of Knife Party and such but this mix provides a very eclectic mix of dubstep that should interest all the doubters of dubstep and fans alike.  I honestly didn't think this could top volume 2 but wow, the song selection on these mixes is just incredible.  Give it a listen below and prepare to be amazed for a solid 45 minutes.  The track list is on the video page but I posted it after the jump as well in case you're interested.

Toolroom Records Ibiza 2012

While browsing through the latest offerings on beatport today I stumbled into this great little track from Christian Smith.  I must admit that I was drawn in by the title of this track as it is the city that currently call home.  Get ready for 7 minutes of good ol' fashioned tech house.  Further exploration of this Toolroom Records Ibiza EP led me to a new Kaiserdisco track called Semiramis.  Check out both below and make sure to get the whole EP here!

Porter Robinson Edits

I remember making a post way back when this blog started last year around this time about how everyone should see Porter Robinson and how he should be a household name.  Here we are a year or more later and he has been headlining festivals again and again.  Very happy to see how much of a success he has become and with all that success comes lots of fans.  And with lots of fans comes fan giveaways which he has so kindly provided to all of us today.  Below is a link to some of his exclusive edits/bootlegs that he has decided to give away for free to everyone today along with an extra goodie from his good friend Madeon (the radio rip not the teaser).  And I just gotta say, I love the new direction Madeon went in for this song, the kid can do absolutely no wrong.

Fred Falke & Summertime

If anyone out there is into the nu-disco scene, then Fred Falke is no stranger to you.  For those of you unfamiliar, check out these two remixes below for honest to goodness disco glory.  These tracks make me want to run away to Ibiza or LA and just dance on the beach all day.

Keys n Krates Essentials

I have recently been loving what I have been hearing from this up and coming trio from Toronto, Keys n Krates.  With more of a hip hop slant on the electronic songs they remix, they truly have a unique sound that I'm not really even sure can be categorized into one genre.  From what I hear, their live show is quite something as well as they have drums, turntables, and synths all for live mixing and even production.  They will actually be playing in NYC at Brooklyn Bowl on Thursday, July 12th which should be quite the show (especially for $8).  Tickets can be found here and I urge you to check out some of my favorite tracks from them below (all have free downloads).  They also released an entire EP for free last year which can be found here.  Make sure to keep an eye out for any of their new releases in the future for a very refreshing, different sound from the normal electronic music out there now.

Sensation America Presale

It has come to my attention that Sensation America has started to release tickets for $170 (includes fees) for both shows.  You can get this through a presale email from Sensation that you can sign up for here or you could simply follow the two links below and use the presale code which is LO1NO9SA (it's the same for everyone).  Just enter it at the Friday Presale Page or the Saturday Presale Page.  Tickets for the presale will be available until June 7th at 10PM.  As a reminder, the event is 21+ and will be in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center.

Update: Saturday tickets are sold out.  Friday is still available here

Weekend Mixes

Well the weekend is here once again and with summer officially in full swing, I have two incredible mixes just for you all.  We first start off with the Nu Disco up and comer from Germany, Justin Faust.  He has quickly become a must know name in the disco scene and has been creating mixes that rival the Magic Tapes from The Magician, great for any summer weekend.  Up next, we have Shinichi Osawa who created one of the best techno mixes I think I've ever heard.  I am not normally a techno fan but I have listened to this 3 times now and closing it out with a Soulwax remix of Arcade Fire is just phenomenal.  Depending on your mood, both of these are excellent listens for the weekend and I hope you all agree.

As an added bonus, I threw in a track that was recently brought to my attention by a friend.  Some true dubstep that is just too damn impressive to not post, especially because it comes from a deep house producer, Maya Jane Coles.
