A couple of us ended up at the Sullivan Room both nights this weekend after Pacha royally fucked up the Prydz show on Saturday night. Criminal Sound brought in Guy J (Bedrock Records) on Friday, and Zombie Disco Squad and Justin Martin (Dirtybird) were recruited by Verboten for the party Saturday.

I've never seen Guy J before and was not sure what to expect. The Israeli producer and DJ has been on the scene for quite a while now and has no shortage of amazing singles and full-lengths released on John Digweed's Bedrock Records. His tracks can be quite ambient at points, drawing influences of techno and electronica. Definitely a deeper, darker sound, but always melodic and soulful at the same time. The Sullivan Room's Core Audio sound system brought out the best in these tracks too. Sidenote: he uses Ableton to mix! So do I! Maybe we can be best friends?

Justin Martin
Unfortunately I missed Zombie Disco Squad, but I got there shortly after Justin Martin went on at 2. I had seen his fellow dirtybird artists Christian Martin (his brother) and Worthy at Coachella and those were easily 2 of my favorite sets of the festival, so I knew this would be amazing. The man didn't disappoint, bringing a barrage of incredibly deep dark (sometimes tribal) house and breakbeat tracks that the dirtybird label is known for. And of course it sounded wonderful through the 18' subs surrounding the dance floor in the Sullivan Room.
He played both of these...Don't Go is definitely one of my favorite tracks right now. I recently included it in a live mix.
He dropped this gem of a track wayyyy late on in the night...the lyrics tell you the mental state most people were in at this point.
After this weekend the Sullivan Room may be my favorite venue in the city...I highly recommend it. If you want some more tracks from these guys, feel free to comment below and just ask! Also, remember to stay updated on all the upcoming shows listed on the right side of the page.
