Electric Zoo 2012: Saturday Review / Track IDs
I think I'm the only writer that failed to do a post about my top picks leading up to Electric Zoo, so I guess I'll try to make up for it a bit by telling you who my favorites were from the weekend. If you read this post, you can probably guess who my number 1 is...
1. Sasha
"The man like" Sasha needs no introduction, especially to the NYC club scene considering He and John Digweed held down a monthly residency at the City's iconic club Twilo until it closed in 2001. Words can't describe how happy I was to be able to see the man do what he does twice in one summer. Needless to say, a man like Sasha will always get the floor moving. And his Electric Zoo set was no disappointment. Here are a couple from earlier on:
Electric Rescue - Dope (John Digweed & Nick Muir Mix)
NOTE: I think he played the Diggers / Muir mix, but it may have been the original...
Kolsch feat Troels Abrahamsen - All That Matters (Original Mix)
This was a definite highlight for me, 3rd from last song. What a beauty:
Finally, he closed with his Invol3ver mix of Hot Chip's glorious track "Flutes." What a track:
Mind = blown. Energetic as hell. Though this was best of the best for me, what came next was not too far off....
2. Chris Liebing
Jesus Christ. Can you say terrifying techno? Chris came on right after Sasha and closed down the Sunday School Grover proper. I'll keep this one short because I honestly don't know that much about the German producer other than if given the opportunity, you must go see him. You will not stop dancing. It's impossible. Also, check out some of the releases on his label "CLR." There's quite the library out there. Here's one that I'm quite fond of:
Andrea Doria & John Acquviva - La Sirena (Chris Liebing Remix)
The highlight of his set for me was his closer for the night. He lulled us into a trance with a gripping percussion line, then dropped an absolute monster. See for yourself (the "monster" arrives around 5 minutes...)
3. Claude Von Stroke
I've never had a chance to see the Dirtybird label's frontman in action until this year's festival, and his set was a party and a half. To be honest I'm struggling to remember any IDs because he went on fairly soon after our epic pregame, but I can tell you that he definitely brought the trademark dirtybird bass-heavy breaks to the party. Here's an example:
Here is one track that I DEFINITELY remember him dropping though. This was probably the "track of the weekend" given that we heard it 3-4 times throughout. Great tune from Julio Bashmore.
I actually threw it in a set I posted a little while back.
Julio Bashmore - Au Seve (Original Mix)
So that wraps up saturday for me. Notable ID from Koze's great set was Duke Dumont's Street Walker and oh yeah, if you're wondering, Maya Jane Coles DID close with her remix of "She's on Fire." It was awesome.
Cheers!
