None of the names below should be unfamiliar to many of you as they are by no means strangers to the festival setting. I'm simply pointing out some of the great names that aren't always in the New York area. Check after the jump for my no brainer picks for Electric Zoo 2012 featuring Netsky, Sasha, Better Lost Than Stupid and Boys Noize!
Netsky
This is most likely my most anticipated set for Friday. The Belgian drum and bass producer Boris Daenen, better known as Netsky, is one of the best in the business right now at what he does. One of the figureheads off High Contrast's Hospital Records, Netsky will be unleashing bass tracks off his recently released album "2" for the first time in New York.
Sasha
Do I really need to spell this one out? The man is and has been one of the best in the business for the past 20 years. The first DJ set I ever saw was a Sasha and Digweed show in the small TLA in Philadelphia. Needless to say, I've taken every opportunity to see him I can. From his insane live edits to his never ending bag of unreleased gems, it will be hard for anyone to top this set all weekend.
Better Lost Than Stupid
The triumvirate of techno. David Squillace, Mathias Tanzmann and Martin Buttrich. Three techno DJs and producers well established each in their own right but when put together sets up for an absolute monster of a set. These guys played together in NYC exactly a year ago and although I unfortunately wasn't in attendance, I've heard to expect nothing short of stellar.
Boys Noize
New album in October. New live show coming to the U.S.A. this fall. Alex Ridha has been one my absolute favorite producers and DJ's since I was first introduced to him after his initial LP "Oi Oi Oi". The young German just finished his third LP, due out this October, and has been constantly promoting it as a return to that signature sound from songs such as "&Down" and his remix of "My Moon My Man" by Feist. He also recently released two songs with Skrillex (gasp!) under the moniker Dogblood. Honestly, I can't wait to hear Next Order on the Sunday School Grove speakers as I've had it on repeat since I got my hands on it. I can guarantee you one thing: after destroying the Hilltop Arena last year, the man will make sure to have some extra tricks up his sleeve this year.
So there you have it. These are just some of the heavy hitters featured this year at Electric Zoo. Be sure to be there this Labor Day weekend!!
